Independent Film Making

At Red Film we get a lot of people that are interested in film making and distribution wanting to learn more about Independent Film or Indie Film as it is more lovingly referred to. We've put together a little more information on this page and we will soon be offering a number of the best Indie films to buy via download or DVD from our site.

As a Collective, we are very keen to push indie film and indie film makers and always looking for new people to join us. Red Film is now evolving into a pretty strong group and we are about to link up with some distribution companies so if you have a film that you've shot and are proud of, please get in touch as we may be able to help you.

If you just Googled the term for a bit more info about it all, here ya go:

Independent film / indie film, is in essence, low budget film making, produced either by a small film studio, production company or in many cases, a single Individual. The term is also used to describe less commercially-driven films projects which often have a different makeup to the more traditionally plot-driven film and mainstream cinema. Independent films often act as a real showcase of a Director's particular style and vision within the film making process.

The past 15 years has seen a significant development in the indie film scene in the UK owing to the rapid development of affordable digital video(that can compete with the far more expensive and technically demanding 35 mm film) and easily accessible and affordable computer editing software. Another key factor in raising the profile of indie films and indie film makers has been the increasing visibility of independent film festivals such as London's PORTOBELLO FILM FESTIVAL which showcases independent films and video mostly from British filmmakers and The Raindance Film Festival which is the largest independent film festival in the UK.
